Timothy R. Barakett is the Chairman of TRB Advisors LP (“TRB”), a private investment firm formed to manage his family’s capital. TRB invests directly in public and private markets, and provides capital and strategic support to a number of asset managers and specialty finance firms.
Prior to founding TRB in 2010, Mr. Barakett was the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Atticus Capital LP, a global investment management firm. Prior to founding Atticus in 1995, Mr. Barakett was a Managing Director at Junction Advisors, an investment management company specializing in risk arbitrage, and earlier in his career he was a Senior Associate at Battery Ventures, a venture capital firm.
Mr. Barakett currently serves on the boards of GreyCastle Holdings, a United Kingdom and Bermuda-based reinsurance business, and Castleton Commodities, a global trading and infrastructure company, as well as the advisory boards of several startups and investment management companies. Mr. Barakett has previously served on numerous boards, including public company boards in the United States, England and France.
Mr. Barakett is currently a trustee of the Dalton School and an honorary trustee of the New York Public Library, where he previously served as a trustee. Mr. Barakett was previously a trustee of The Mount Sinai Hospital and Continuum Health Partners. Mr. Barakett also serves as a trustee of the Timothy and Michele Barakett Foundation.
Mr. Barakett received a B.A. degree in economics from Harvard in 1987 and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School in 1993.
At Harvard, Mr. Barakett has served as the Co-Chairman of The Harvard Campaign for Arts and Sciences, the Co-Chairman for Financial Aid of The Harvard Campaign for Arts and Sciences, and a member of the Harvard University Capital Campaign Executive Committee. Mr. Barakett is also on the board of the Friends of Harvard Hockey.
An ice hockey player in college, Mr. Barakett was drafted by the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils, played professionally for EV Zug in the Swiss National League, and was a member of Team Canada when it won the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
A Canadian citizen, Mr. Barakett lives in New York City with his wife and two children.
